5 Simple Steps to Quickly and Easily Transpose a Song from 1 Key to Another AND Become the Transposing WIZARD in just 10 Days or less!

So...you'd love to be able to play your favorite song AND you found the lead sheet online!!! YAYYY!  But wait a minute....it's written in the key of F# and you don't know how to play in F#!  What to do???

Follow the simple steps below and you'll be playing your favorite song in your favorite key in about 10 minutes or less!  Even better, if you follow the SUPER TIP below, you'll be able to do this with any song in your head as you play along....that's right....you'll be a TRANSPOSING WIZARD in just 10 days or less!!!

Step One: You want to play "Amazing Grace" in the key of C Major, but your lead  sheet is written in the key of G Major.

Step Two:  Write out the major scale for the key in which the song is written, and write a number 1-7 under each letter of the scale.  (Google the scale if you don't already know it.)

Step Three:  Replace the "letter" with the numbers from Step Two.
                              G 1            G/B 1/3   C 4         G 1

Step Four:  Write out the scale and corresponding numbers in the new key.

Step Five:  Write the correct letter for the new key on your lead sheet.

Yes, the first time you look at this it seems like some kinda crazy CIA code!  I promise you that it becomes MUCH easier...most musicians do this in their head.  However, I can also promise that will never happen for you if you don't take some time to practice this technique.  Like everything in life, music isn't magic; it's just lots of practice.

SUPER TIP:  The good news is that after you've done this about 100 times, you'll be able to do it in your sleep.  Does 100 seem like a lot?  Break it down into manageable chunks, and just transpose 10 songs a day for the next 10 days.  VOILA!  You'll be doing it like a BOSS!  :-)
